The Ravens will need a new wide receivers coach to replace Jim Hostler.



The Ravens need a new wide receivers coach.

Jim Hostler was named a senior offensive assistant by the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday, the team announced.

Hostler was one of the finalists for the Ravens’ opening at offensive coordinator before Baltimore hired Gary Kubiak. He was the only in-house candidate interviewed for the position.

Head Coach John Harbaugh said he was still in contact with Hostler and expected something to happen in the next couple of days that worked best for everybody involved.

"Jim is a fine coach and even better person," Harbaugh said. "He has been a big part of the success in Baltimore, and I am grateful for the contributions he made to our team. We wish him well in Buffalo."

Hostler spent the past six years in Baltimore, coming in with Harbaugh in 2008. He was well respected and liked by his Ravens players, and developed receivers such as Torrey Smith and Marlon Brown.

There is media speculation that former Texans Wide Receivers Coach Larry Kirksey could replace Hostler. The Ravens have already hired a couple of Kubiak’s assistants from Houston in Rick Dennison (quarterbacks coach) and Brian Pariani (tight ends coach).

The Ravens now have two offensive openings to fill with wide receivers coach and running backs coach.
